with a family dinner
at a restaurant.
Both twins were antsy
from being hungry and bored.
"Please entertain us!"
The plastic wrappers
from their bendy milk cup straws . . .
. . . what delightful toys.
For tickling noses
and for playing keep-away
until the food came.
Jake sat and colored
his placemat with three crayons.
"I need a red one!"
"Not one more french fry
until you eat more chicken."
The slowest eater.
"I'm getting too full."
"What're we having for dessert?"
"The strawberry's mine!"
Had milk spat on me.
"Um . . . we need more napkins, please."
We all survived though.

We end up playing a lot of hangman while we are waiting. It works for us.

Very cute haiku, and it sounds like it wasn't an all bad dinner out at all.

Great haiku...I think every mother can relate! We splurged and went out twice this week (once was for Father's Day). Neither restaurant was a pleasant experience, and the food was terrible. *sigh* I don't think we'll be going out for a while!

You had dinner...at a restaurant? I'm so jealous!

Sounds pretty tame to me. Dinner out with my four grandchildren is always an adventure in "I never saw these people before in my life." And "Hey, can't you keep those kids QUIET?" lol

Aren't those outings just so fun? :-)

LOL! Very well done :) This sounds so familiar. I only have 1, but dining out is always a circus!

Kids are always entertained by the darndest things. "I had mile spat on me", lol, I don't miss that part of young ones.

Cute! Life at restaurants has finally gotten easier for me now that, at age 5, my son finally enjoys coloring and reading activity books.

entertaining small
children while waiting in a
restaurant ... KUDOS!
That's no simple task, but it seems that all had fun thanks to you.
It’s taken just about all day, but I’ve managed to post Haiku on both of my blogs after making numerous changes to each and creating a third. Imagine that! Just call me obsessed and addicted ;--)
Hugs and blessings,

yes, we went out for father's day with all four kids seven and under. It was a similar juggling act!!
I took most of my dinner home... but we had a good time !!
