All three of my children are big fans of the shows Dora the Explorer and Go Diego Go. So when they received a review copy of the new Diego DVD called "Rainforest Fiesta!" they were very excited. My 5yr old was especially excited because there were two episodes on this DVD that he had never seen before.This DVD contains 4 episodes:
"Diego and Porcupine Save the Pinata!" teaches your child about porcupines.
"A New Flamingo Mami" tells all about flamingos.
"Macky the Macaroni Penguin" talks about what it's like to be penguin.
"Linda the Llama Saves the Carnival" tells your child all about llamas.
What I thought about this DVD as a parent:
1) I like how every episode focuses on teaching your child facts about a specific kind of animal.
2) Every episode has a recap at the end of the important facts your child has learned. They present this in a form of a quiz where each correct answer reveals another piece of a puzzle. I think this is very helpful in reinforcing what was introduced throughout the episode.
3) In addition to animal facts, I find it important that the characters show examples of good social behavior, such as the benefits of working together as a team to achieve one goal.
4) I also like that this show appeals to children of different ages in general. While my 5yr old can appreciate the interesting facts presented by the characters, my 2yr old twins enjoy the characters for their entertainment value, such as the Bobo Brothers' antics and Baby Jaguar's heroics.
What my 5yr old son thought about this DVD:
1) Although I did hear him giggle out loud now and then, he mostly listened intently. This shows me that this DVD made learning fun and interesting to him.
2) He said he liked the first episode ("Diego and the Porcupine Save the Pinata") the best out of the four.
3) From what I observed, he really enjoyed answering the review questions at the end of each episode. It gave him a sense of pride to have answered some or all of the questions correctly.
