Giveaway & Review: Dole Canned Fruit ($25 Value) [CLOSED]

If you are looking for some easy summer recipes, you can find some tasty-looking ones by Chef Ben Ford at DoleMakeMeAChef.com . Dole had actually sent me 2 cans of Dole canned fruit to try one of these recipes for myself. I opted for the Angel Lush, which contains Dole crushed pineapple, fresh strawberries, angel food cake, vanilla pudding, and whipped topping. YUM! These were my results . . .

What my family and I thought about the Angel Lush fruity dessert:

1) The recipe was incredibly easy to make, especially if you use a store-bought angel food cake or ready-to-use dessert shells.

2) The presentation was very attractive.

3) For our taste, the recipe was too sweet. Even my 5yr old could not finish his. Our 2yr old twins gobbled theirs up, but they had much smaller servings.

4) What I would do differently next time is to opt to use the angel food cake shells rather than a large amount of cubed cake. I think using buttermilk biscuits would also taste very good because the savory taste would balance out the sweet. Also, biscuits would not become soggy as quickly as cake had.

5) If I were to use layers again, I would use much less of the pineapple and vanilla pudding mix. I would probably put a ratio of 1:3 of pineapple mix and fresh strawberries. The tartness in the strawberries did a great job of balancing out the sweetness of the pineapples, pudding, and angel food cake.

6) If I adjusted the recipe as described above, then I would probably add a dusting of powdered sugar just for presentation.
