How To Dress-Up Your FP Girl (FPGirl.com) Printable e-Gift Certificate

A couple of months ago, our daughter was invited to a birthday party for one of her friends who has almost everything.  Usually in that situation, I would buy the birthday girl or boy a gift certificate or gift card, but that is not always the case when the child is younger.  This girl was only turning 6 years old, but I made an exception.  I ended up purchasing an electronic gift certificate to FPGirl.com (formerly Fashion Playtes).  Normally, I would opt for a physical gift certificate or a gift card to be mailed to me, but I was uncertain I would receive this one on time, so I ended up printing one out at home instead.

Since it is not very fun for a little girl to receive a piece of paper for her birthday, I thought I would help my daughter dress the gift certificate.  You can do this easy craft with most gift certificates that you can print online.

SUPPLIES NEEDED:

Printed 8-1/2" x 11" gift certificate
Sheet of 9" x 12" coordinating construction paper
Printed (or solid) satin or grosgrain ribbon (Approx. 40")
Glue stick
All-purpose white glue

(Click any photo to enlarge)

Step 1.  Fold your construction paper in half.  Then do the same to your printed gift certificate, so that the printed sides are face-to-face.

Step 2.  Using the glue stick, apply glue to the blank side of the gift certificate.  Then carefully secure it to the construction paper, matching up the fold lines and making sure the amount of construction paper showing on the left, right, top, and bottom edges are even.

Step 3.  Cut a piece of ribbon about 22" long.

Step 4.  Fold the ribbon in half, then using all-purpose white glue, adhere the ribbon (printed side up) to the front and back of the outside of the construction paper, matching up the fold in the ribbon to the crease on the paper and bisecting the construction paper lengthwise.  (See photo above.)

Step 5.  To create something decorative for the front, I created a simple printable coloring page (about 5" x 7") by using images from the FP Girl site and a basic graphics program.  You can also just give your child a blank piece of paper to draw something from scratch and then help him or her write a birthday message.

Step 6.  Using the glue stick, adhere the 5" x 7" paper to the front of the card you created right over the ribbon, making sure that it is centered.

Step 7.  Cut 2 pieces of ribbon approximately 7-1/2" in length each.

Step 8.  Using the all-purpose white glue, adhere the ribbon to the front of the card, covering the top and bottom edges of the 5" x 7" piece of paper.  (NOTE:  If you choose to, you can also glue ribbon over the left and right edges also.)

Step 9.  Loosely tie the ribbon that hangs down the front and back of the card together.  (You do not want to tie it too tightly, otherwise the child might have difficulty opening it and may tear the paper.)

Step 10.  Trim the ends of the tied ribbon to the desired length either at a slant or dovetailed.

120 x 60 Logo

My daughter was so excited to give this special gift to her friend.  Since she loves designing clothes on the FP Girl website, she knew her friend would love it too, especially since FP Girl has a special My Little Pony section.  The gift was a huge hit and I will definitely be doing this again for her friends in the future.

Holiday 2010 Giveaway: Dakota's Personalized Gifts ($50 GC) [CLOSED]

Last month, my husband and I celebrated our 10th anniversary! Since we did not have the money to go on an elaborate vacation getaway, I kept my eyes peeled for affordable personalized anniversary gifts to commemorate this milestone. I made a photo book that was just for our family to share, but I also wanted something that we would see everyday that would remind us of how far we have come during these past 10 years.

The Our Family Welcome Doormat from The Anniversary Rose seemed like just the right thing for us. It proudly displays our family name for anyone who comes to visit to see. The Anniversary Rose has a vast selection of keepsakes and gifts for couples.

We have our mat inside our front foyer. It has a finished edge and a non-slip backing. Although the description on the website stated the edges were suppose to be black, ours did not arrive with a black edge. I personally think it is more attractive without the black.

The Anniversary Rose has a sister site called Dakota's Personalized Gifts. This site offers many of the romantic gifts offered by The Anniversary Rose, but also has much more, including personalized holiday gifts, birthday gifts, graduation gifts, and baby keepsakes.

More about this family business . . .

"We started in a spare bedroom about 5 years ago more as a part time hobby than a business with The Anniversary Rose making roses for the traditional anniversary gifts (i.e. 1st year paper, 2nd year cotton, 5th year wood etc) cutting rose petals by hand with scissors. It quickly grew from a part time hobby to a full time business, adding help and equipment to keep up. Then, we started expanding into personalized anniversary gifts. We started getting many requests from our customers for personalized wedding, Mother’s & Father's Day and Christmas gifts etc. That's when we started Dakota's Personalized Gifts. Soon the business took over a second bedroom and the garage, the following year it occupying two bedrooms, the garage & a full basement. With no room left to expand we were forced to move into a commercial location in 2009. We continue to expand with new products and updated equipment all the time which allows us to produce most of the personalized items in house."

Both sites have flat rate shipping for orders shipped within the continental United States. For business addresses, the flat rate is $5.95 per order and $7.95 for residential addresses.

Thank you to The Anniversary Rose for sending us a complimentary sample product to base this review upon and for providing a gift certificate for our contest prize.

Back To School 2010 Giveaway: Sassy Seedling Children's Boutique ($50 GC) [CLOSED]

Our little girl is turning into quite the diva (and not always in a good way). When I had a daughter, I never pictured her to turn out quite as girly as our preschooler has turned out to be. Despite spending most of her time with her two brothers, she loves to look pretty and loves making a fashion statement even more. She adores her new flower beanie from Sassy Seedling because it makes quite the dramatic statement.

There was a time that I found this style of girl's hats to be a little to frilly. With ruffles being so popular in fashion now, I am starting to look at these large dramatic flowers differently.

I have to point out that the beanie was presented very nicely wrapped in colored tissue and grosgrain ribbon with a Sassy Seedling tag. You could easily send a Sassy Seedling item directly to someone as a gift with such special touches included.

My daughter is 3-1/2 years old, so I requested the Toddler/Child size beanie, which is recommended for children ages 2 to 6. I think when my daughter gets a little older, this hat would be perfect for her. The crocheted beanie fits fine, but the flower is slightly too large for her. It is the same size as her face, so I think a slightly smaller flower would have worked better for her. Luckily the flower is actually a hair clip, so I can temporarily replace the flower with a smaller one until my daughter grows a little bit.

I have to say that I love the color combination of this Fleur Beanie. Sassy Seedling offers this hat in 8 colors, but the combinations seem to vary. I am so in love with the Milk Chocolate/Violet for fall!

The selection at Sassy Seedling is not limited to girl's hats and hair accessories. This children's boutique also offers clothing for boys and girls, as well as designer baby gear. You can even start an online gift registry, which is a wonderful feature. To learn more about this online boutique, visit SassySeedling.com and Sassy Seedling on Facebook.

Thank you to Sassy Seedling for sending us a sample hat free of charge to base this review upon and for providing a gift certificate for our contest prize.

Giveaway & Review: Novica Artisan Home Decor & Gifts ($75 GC) [CLOSED]

If you are a fan of hand crafted gifts and home decor items, but have never visited Novica.com, then you are missing out. I can spend hours browsing on this site and am always in awe at the results from the hands of these talented artisans located all over the world.

When shopping for myself, I gravitate towards the vast selection of sterling silver jewelry, specifically the necklaces and bracelets. Although I love all silver jewelry, I have to avoid silver earrings because I have come to realize that I have developed an allergy to any earring post that contains silver in recent years.

This time around, I was not shopping for myself. I was actually looking for a Father's Day gift for my husband. I ended up choosing this Wooden Chess Set crafted by a man named Rakesh Pathak in Delhi. This item came with free gift wrapping, as well as a post card from that part of the world, and a little card telling the story of the artisan who created the item.

I was extremely impressed by the quality of this chess set. It is perfect for travelling because the magnetic pieces are safely stored inside the folding game board. My husband loved it and he and our 6-1/2 year old son now have something else they like to spend time doing together.

In addition to this chess set, I also purchased some instruments for our children. When I saw this pair of bamboo panpipes, I knew they would be perfect for our 6 year old and one of his younger siblings.

I am always impressed by the wrapping on Novica items. The photo on the left shows how this panpipe set was wrapped and decorated. Each panpipe came with it's own woven carrying case. Our children loved them!

I personally loved the handpainted Do Re Mi notes that were applied to the larger of the two panpipes. I think this little detail will surely help our son learn to play this instrument more easily. These panpipes were created by a man named Benito Tito of Peru.

What started me on the idea of musical instruments was actually seeing this 6" diameter mini-djembe drum. My brother-in-law loves drums and our children love to play with his when they go over to visit their favorite uncle. I thought our children would be thrilled to have a drum just like Uncle Matt's . . . and I was right!

This drum was crafted by a wood carver named Ernestina Oppong Assante and her husband in West Africa.

Thank you to Novica.com for providing us with a gift certificate free of charge to shop for products to share with our readers and for providing a second gift certificate for our contest prize.
