Living Green With Jerinda: OraMD is an All-Natural 3-in-1 Oral Hygiene Product

Thank you to OraMD for providing a complimentary product sample for us to base this review upon. All opinions expressed are my own.

Dental hygiene is something most people are concerned with and OraMD is a new product to help keep your mouth healthy. OraMD is an all-natural answer to all oral hygiene needs because it is a toothpaste, mouthwash, and a breath freshener all in one small, concentrated bottle of liquid. This is unlike any product I’ve ever seen and it is highly effective.

One small bottle of OraMD is enough to last one person at least one month, depending on how often you use it. For brushing teeth, use 2-5 drops directly on your toothbrush and then brush as usual. For mouthwash, put 2-5 drops in one ounce of water and swish or gargle or use as a breath freshener by putting 2-5 drops directly onto the tip of your tongue then using your tongue to spread it along the gum line. This product kills germs and can help to combat gingivitis. As I said before, it is highly effective and really leaves your whole mouth feeling clean and fresh and keeps bad breath at bay when used as directed. It is very strong tasting though and it really takes some getting used to. The first few days my eyes watered every time I used it, but as I used it longer, it did not have that effect on my any longer.

OraMD is a very different product, but much safer to use than typical toothpaste and mouthwash. It does not contain any harmful ingredients and is, by far, the safest oral hygiene product I’ve ever seen. Their website can give you more information about why mainstream toothpastes are harmful so I won’t go into that here, but they are correct in what they claim and I have full confidence in this little bottle of OraMD. In the month that I’ve been using it, my teeth have felt cleaner, my gums healthier, my breath much fresher, and my teeth even seem to be whiter. And all of this without ingesting or absorbing any toxins or other chemicals such as bleach. I am very happy with this products and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a much healthier alternative to typical mouth products.

You can purchase OraMD on the website www.trustedhealthproducts.com.

The manufacturer is willing to offer my readers one FREE bottle of OraMD. They said they would love to have our readers try out OraMD and agreed to send one bottle FREE if our readers would pay a minimal shipping and handling charge. They also agreed to include 2 eye-opening reports called 1) “The 6 Hidden Dangers In Toothpaste” and 2) “Why The FDA Requires A Warning Label On Your Toothpaste.” That’s a total value of over $40.00. Oral-B ProfessionalCare 3000 Rechargeable Toothbrush

I have been using a lower end Oral B electric toothbrush for years. I have been a big fan since I bought my first one maybe 6 years ago. The model I've owned is quite simple and not very powerful, but it did its job.

When Karen asked me if I wanted to try a new and better toothbrush I jumped at the chance. After all I loved my basic one for so long. I was sent the Oral-B ProfessionalCare 3000 with 4 unique brush heads, quite an upgrade for me!

The first thing you notice when unboxing your Oral-B 3000 is that the charging base is designed to hold multiple brush heads. The very second thing you notice is that the Oral-B 3000 comes with 4 unique and specialized brush heads: Precision Clean; Dual Clean; Pro Whitening; and the Sensitive Brush Head. I was so excited I didn't know which one I wanted to try first! (There are two versions of the 3000 in existence . . . one with an upright base like mine and one with a horizontal base.  Both come with the same four heads and have identical technology.)

The toothbrush itself is sleek and slightly smaller than my old one, which is nice as I want my brush as small as possible. The charging base works very much the same way as my old one which is fine, the mechanism is simple and it works. It is also easy to keep clean.  Just wipe it down.

I ended up trying the Dual Clean first but was overwhelmed. The large head combined with the brush's power was a bit much for me. I should say however that I have a pretty sensitive gag reflex and the large brush was just slightly too big for me, but I think most would find it fine. It did clean very well during my brief test. The next brush head I tried was the Pro Whitening and I found it very comfortable. This head has a small rubber cup in the center much like a professional dentists polisher. In the short time I have owned the Oral-B 3000 I have not seen the whitening effect, but my teeth feel very clean after each use and I look forward to whiter teeth as I continue to use it.

My current favorite however is the Sensitive head. I think I like this one the best because the Oral-B 3000 is very powerful and it balances out nicely for my teeth and gums. I am sure as I become accustomed to the increased power I will be more comfortable with the other heads, maybe even the Dual Clean.

The only negative I have about the brush is that the most powerful speed setting is the very first speed that starts when you turn it on. And it is VERY strong. And if you do not want to make a toothpaste mess you really need to put the brush in your mouth prior to turning it on. So you need to endure the highest speed in your mouth right away before you can cycle it down to the very comfortable middle speed.

Overall the Oral-B ProfessionalCare 3000 is a great toothbrush. I love the variety of brush heads and the ability to tune the speed to fit the head and my preference. I can clearly see the quality is as I expect from Oral B and I know I will enjoy it at least as long as my old one. (Even though the first speed is chainsaw!)

Our Family Succeeded in the Listerine Oral Care Challenge!

Three weeks ago, I announced that my family had agreed to take the Listerine "Healthy Habits for a Lifetime" Oral Care Challenge.  I must admit, that I was not 100% sure that my family, consisting of 2 adults, 2 five year olds, and an 8 year old,  would make it the whole three weeks flossing, brushing, and rinsing twice a day everyday.  Even though we had a couple of bumps in the road, all five of us managed to complete the challenge.

Prior to the start of the challenge, our three children brushed regularly twice a day (although we have caught them trying to skip it now and then), but the only person in the house that flossed and used mouthwash was my husband.  I really did not know what to expect as far as the amount of resistance we would get towards flossing and rinsing.

To raise the odds of our completing this challenge as a family, we told the children that we would take them to a movie of their choice (parent-approved, of course) as a reward if we succeeded.  The Listerine products and Reach toothbrushes featuring some of their favorite licensed characters also made the experience more fun.  I have to say that I was surprised at how excited our children were to participate and how seriously they took this challenge from the start.

(Click any image to enlarge)

Any worries I had about our children flossing were erased by their mastering the use of Plackers Kids Flossers fairly easily.  Our 8 year old son and I both used the easy-gliding Reach Total Care Mint Floss.  What I was really most worried about was how well our children would handle the taste and the logistics of using the Listerine Smart Rinse Fluoride Rinse.  Again, I was pleasantly surprised.  Although they did say that this non-alcohol rinse for children did burn a little, it was not so much that they refused to continue to use it.  What made this step even easier are the kid-friendly bottles.  They are specially designed so that a child can squeeze the mouthwash up to the built-in cup through a straw and the cup automatically releases any excess back into the bottle, leaving only the correct amount of mouthwash every time.  Still, we needed to monitor our younger children because sometimes they would not squeeze enough mouthwash to fill the cup up to the line.

The end-result is that, over the past 3 weeks, our children have developed a habit of flossing, brushing, and rinsing twice daily.  They even feel strange not having done it if they had forgotten.  Like with brushing, we did have one or two instances when one of the younger children tried to skip their new routine, but they always ended up doing it anyways since they were being monitored closely.  If you would like to get your family into a better oral care routine, start off by printing the chart and markers below.  If my family could do it, so can yours!

I also have to mention that I was a little worried that I would be the weak link in the chain.  I had not tried to floss in a very long time because my teeth were always very crowded, even after having five teeth extracted as a teenager.  I was so surprised that I was able to use the Reach Total Care Mint Floss without much difficulty, even in the tightest spots.

Another problem I have is an overly sensitive tongue.  I cannot even eat cinnamon candy without getting burnt patches on it.  I think the Listerine Total Care Zero Anticavity Mouthwash saved me.  It contains no alcohol just like the children's mouthwash.  Even so, this rinse still burned my tongue a little and I had to brush my tongue with a tiny bit of cold water after each use.  I was thrilled that there was a mouthwash made for adults with sensitive tongues like me.

Our LISTERINE "Healthy Habits for a Lifetime" Oral Care Challenge Started Today!

My family has been invited to take the Listerine Healthy Habits for a Lifetime Oral Care Challenge and I gladly accepted because we are not doing so well in the healthy habits department when it comes to our teeth and gums.  My husband and I both need dental work, but just cannot afford to have it done all at once.  We definitely do not want our children (currently 8, 5, and 5) going down this road, but when it is a struggle just to make sure they are brushing at least twice a day, doing more seems nearly impossible.  After hearing what dental experts had to say about oral care in young children, I realized that we must have our children floss, brush, and rinse twice a day every day.  And as the adults, my husband and I must lead by example.  That means no more working until 1am and then just throwing myself into bed without brushing because I am too tired!

In this challenge, my family has agreed to floss, brush, and rinse with mouthwash at least twice a day for 3 weeks.  Here are some dental facts I had learned that convinced me more than ever that succeeding at this challenge is a necessity:
  • Brushing alone only cleans 25% of the germs in your mouth.
  • 75% of adults suffer from some form of gum disease
  • 50% of children have their first cavity or filling between the ages of 5 and 9 years old.
  • It is recommended that a child should visit a pediatric dentist as soon as his or her first tooth erupts.
  • It is recommended that parents begin to floss their children's teeth as soon as there are two adjacent teeth.
Since it is National Children's Dental Health Month it seemed like the perfect time to take on this challenge.  The first day of our challenge started off pretty well.  The children were happy to be able to decide on their own weapons of choice, including licensed character Reach Kids toothbrushes, Plackers Kids Flossers, and Listerine Smart Rinse mouthwash in a variety of flavors and characters.  We had the children test out the flossers and were pleasantly surprised that we did not receive any complaints or resistance.  Then we had the children brush with their new toothbrushes and children's fluoride toothpaste.  Finally, we had each child try to  rinse with mouthwash for as close to a minute as they could and then spit it out.

It will take a few days for the children to become accustomed to the floss and the mouthwash, but based on how well things went this morning, I am extremely optimistic that we will successfully complete this challenge.  As a reward, if all 5 of us complete this challenge, we will take the children to a family movie of their choice.

Over the next 3 weeks, look for updates on how our family is doing in the Listerine Healthy Habits for a Lifetime Oral Care Challenge on Facebook and Twitter.  Once our 3 weeks is over, I will update our 3G2S readers about what has worked for us and what has not.  For tips about how to improve oral care habits for your family, visit Walmart.com, who is doing their part by selling Listerine and Reach products at very affordable prices.

$20 Mail-in-Rebate for the Oral-B Professional Care 1000 Electric Toothbrush

If you have been considering switching to a powered toothbrush for yourself or another member of your household, but cannot bring yourself to make the investment, you may want to take advantage of this limited time offer from Oral-B.  Through March 4th, 2012 you can take advantage of a $20 mail-in-rebate good on select electric toothbrushes.  There are actually five different powered toothbrushes to choose from, including the Oral-B Professional Care 1000, which is one of several models of rechargeable toothbrushes offered by Oral-B.

Since it is National Children's Dental Health Month, you may want to consider switching your tween or teen to a powered toothbrush as well.  A rechargeable electric toothbrush makes more sense to me and is worth the investment over children's powered toothbrushes that do not use replaceable batteries.

Review: Radius Intelligent Toothbrush with Built-In Timer

In February of this year, our 6 year old son started using a tooth brushing timer. He has been very good about using it for the full 2 minutes. When we were planning our trip to NYC for BlogHer 2010, I was trying to eliminate as many things as I could from our list of things to pack. If the plush Donald Duck had to come with us, then other things had to stay home. That is why it was such great timing for Radius Toothbrush to contact me. They were nice enough to send us 3 sets of Radius Intelligent Toothbrushes with travel cases to take to BlogHer '10 with us.

The Intelligent Toothbrush is a manual toothbrush that has a built-in 2-minute timer. You need only press the large button to hear a beep and see the indicator light flash. Then the toothbrush will repeat the beep and the flash every 30 seconds until your 2 minutes are up. This is the feature that attracted me to this particular toothbrush the most. The fact that it was recommended for children as young as 6 made it even more perfect for us.

The Radius Intelligent toothbrush retails for $8.99 each, but you only need to buy the whole toothbrush once. The heads, which are available in both soft and medium, are replaceable. They only cost about $5.49 for a 2-pack of replacement heads, which is the same or less than the cost of a standard manual toothbrush. This toothbrush is even smart enough to remind you to check your brush head for wear after 180 uses with a red light. If the bristles still look good, then you can reset the timer by holding the large button down for 5 seconds. Because of the way the handle is designed, the heads can be attached to accommodate both right and left-handed users.

Even though these toothbrushes are recommended for children 6 years old and up, I think the heads are too large for a child's mouth. The head measures 5/8" at it's widest point, 1-1/8" at it's longest point, and 1/2" high. Even as an adult, I found the brush head to be so large that I would be brushing both the top and bottom teeth at the same time. It took some getting use to. I think that offering a second size in replacement heads would solve the problem for anyone who wants to buy this toothbrush for a child or someone with a smaller mouth.

Both the Intelligent Manual Toothbrush and the Radius Toothbrush Travel Case are available in four different colors. To view the full selection of Radius manual toothbrushes, visit RadiusToothbrush.com, where you can purchase Radius products singularly or in multiple value packs. You can find out more about Radius toothbrushes and dental health by visiting the Radius Blog and the Radius Facebook page.

Thank you to Radius for sending us sample products free of charge to base this review upon.

Oral-B Smile Stages on Scrapblog.com

Last year, we began a tradition of including toothbrushes amongst the goodies in our children's Christmas stockings. Even though we do not offer our children lots of sweets during the holidays, other people do.

This year, the twins will be receiving Winnie the Pooh and Little Einsteins Oral-B Stage 2 manual toothbrushes. Normally, we grab the Oral-B Stages multi-pack of toothbrushes and toothpaste at BJ's Wholesale Club, but those wouldn't quite fit inside the stockings, now would they? Our kindergartner will be receiving his very first powered toothbrush ever. He will be so excited to have a motorized toothbrush just like his Dad. This Oral-B Stage 3 Powered Toothbrush will be perfect for our son because he is a huge Wall-E fan!

Oral-B Stages has recently teamed up with Scrapblog.com, an online scrapbooking site, to bring parents Smile-Stages. Just visit Scrapblog.com to create a digital scrapbook page of your child and his or her smile. This is a fun opportunity to document many firsts, such as the first smile, the first day of school, the first date, etc . . . and then share these creations with your friends and family either online or through printed books.

Through March 31st, 2010, you can create one Oral-B Scrapblog to be entered in a random drawing for a wonderful keepsake. Ten winners will each receive a hardcover printed version of their Scrapblog. The best part is that you do not need to be an experienced scrapbooker to create a Smile-Stages Scrapblog on this user-friendly site.

Thank you to Oral B for sending my family samples of Oral-B products to try.
