A Child You Know Could Follow in the Inspiring Footsteps of the Long Brothers, Winners of the 2012 SportsKid of the Year Award!

We received a promotional item as a thank you for taking the time to participate in this campaign.  All opinions expressed are my own.

Our 9 year old Jake has been receiving the Sports Illustrated Kids Magazine for nearly a year now and enjoys it very much. I don't know how many times he interjects and corrects me regarding a host of sports-related facts and trivia, always pleasantly surprising me. It is not uncommon to see Jake reading SI Kids well-past his bedtime after a new issue arrives.

Each year Sports Illustrated Kids awards a kid between the ages of 7 and 15 their SportsKid of the Year award and it is time to start nominating candidates for the 2013 award. What a fun way to celebrate kids who show great sportsmanship on the field and off. The award helps show other kids that sports aren't just about what you do on the field by rewarding kids who excel in all parts of their life as well as on the field.

The winner will appear on the December 2013 color of Sports Illustrated Kids. In addition, the winner will receive a special SportsKid of the Year jacket and a trip to New York City to accept the award at a special ceremony!

Meet the inspiring winners of the 2012 SportsKid of the Year award:

Ruby Tuesday: Last Game of the Season

Last Saturday marked the end of the season for Spring soccer.  The last game was the best of the season, in my opinion.  The teams were very evenly matched.  Our son's team ended up tying the game 2 seconds before the final whistle blew.

After the game we took a group photo and went off to a celebration, which included lunch and ice cream sundaes.  The coaches also presented each team member with a trophy.  This was our son's first trophy, aside from any medals won in taekwondo, and he was both extremely excited and proud.  He decided his desk at home would be the best place to display it.  He is definitely going to sign up to play soccer again in the fall.

If you'd like to see more Ruby Tuesday photos, go visit Mary at Work of the Poet!

Giveaway: Wendy's High School Heisman Award [CLOSED]

Now that the school year is underway, it's back to business, especially for high school junior and seniors. It's time to focus on college applications, scholarships, grants, and student loans.

If you know a student from the Class of 2010 that has a 3.0 grade point average or higher, participates in at least one out of 27 qualifying school-sponsored sports, and gives back to their community somehow, I urge you to encourage him or her to apply for the Wendy's High School Heisman. If you are a teacher who thinks a student you know deserves this honor, then you can nominate that student for consideration. The first 41,100 students to apply will be awarded with Wendy's gift cards of various values.

One male and one female student from each high school will be chosen to move onto the state and national competitions. 12 finalists will each receive an all-expense paid trip to the Heisman ceremonies scheduled for December 11th-13th, 2009 and these finalists will also be featured on ESPN2. One male and one female student will each win a Wendy’s High School Heisman trophy, a Heisman patch, $10,000 for their High School, and a $500 Wendy's gift card.

If you know a student who should submit an application, please make sure they do so by October 1st, 2009 6pm EST. The application can be found at www.WendysHeisman.com .
