Ruby Tuesday: Italian Celebration Cake

Last week, my sister and brother-in-law treated everyone to a Father's Day dinner at an Italian restaurant called Buca di Beppo.  This restaurant served dinner family style, so it was a nice change of pace compared to other family restaurants.  For dessert, we had Tiramisu and celebration cake.  We thought the children would love this colorful cake, but they actually found the colors to be off-putting.  I tried it and thought it was rather good.  The bottom layer of red was especially buttery.  Have you ever had the chance to try Italian celebration cake?

Ruby Tuesday: Last Game of the Season

Last Saturday marked the end of the season for Spring soccer.  The last game was the best of the season, in my opinion.  The teams were very evenly matched.  Our son's team ended up tying the game 2 seconds before the final whistle blew.

After the game we took a group photo and went off to a celebration, which included lunch and ice cream sundaes.  The coaches also presented each team member with a trophy.  This was our son's first trophy, aside from any medals won in taekwondo, and he was both extremely excited and proud.  He decided his desk at home would be the best place to display it.  He is definitely going to sign up to play soccer again in the fall.

Ruby Tuesday: So Many Phone Calls, So Little Time

One toy our children never get tired of is their toy mobile phones.  We have several because they are always being misplaced.  Mickey Mouse is our 4 year old son's favorite Disney character, so he is very attached to this Mickey cell phone the Easter Bunny brought him this year.

Ruby Tuesday: Nurse Shark

Last  week, we went to a restaurant to celebrate my brother-in-law's birthday.  This restaurant always has the most amazing aquarium near the entrance.  For the first time, I remembered to try to take photos of some of the fish.  With my trying not to use a flash and the fish swimming so quickly, most of my photos did not come out, but the ones of this Nurse Shark did.  He didn't move a muscle.  Since the shark was lounging right next to some red coral, I thought this photo would be perfect for Ruby Tuesday.

Ruby Tuesday: In Good Hands

This photo was taken at the twins' preschool brunch a couple of weeks ago.  Since we have twins, they were each able to invite a guest, so both my husband and I were able to attend.  The teachers and the students did an excellent job of decorating and preparing food for the occasion.

Ruby Tuesday: Gifted

A couple of weekends ago, our oldest son attended a birthday party for two of his friends from school who were turning 7.  They were actually boy-girl twins, just like we have.  With my being so short on time lately, I've learned that gift bags and colorful tissues are the way to go.  It literally takes me a small fraction of the time to wrap a gift this way as opposed to using wrapping paper.  Gift bags are much easier for children to carry, as well.

Ruby Tuesday: Red Glider

On Mother's Day, we took this Playmobil glider to my sister's and brother-in-law's house to play with outside before dinner.   It was surprisingly durable.  We know this because it crashed into the trees and the side of the house several times.  It even landed in a patch of poison ivy and survived an extensive bath.

Ruby Tuesday: With Love from Bali

Recently, I ordered a carved coconut shell with a goldfish design for my husband.  It was really an amazingly detailed sculpture.  It was made by an artisan from Bali.  The shell was carefully packed and gift wrapped.  The gift topper was almost as impressive as the gift itself.  It was quite delicate and remained intact during the whole trip from Indonesia.

Ruby Tuesdays: "Where I Belong"

Our cat Sagwa is just over one year old.  She is always trying to be where she is not suppose to be.  Unlike our other cats, who like to be left alone to nap in a quiet spot, she likes to be right in the middle of things.  Unfortunately, our dining table is one of those places she likes to be, especially when there are people sitting around it trying to eat, draw, do homework, etc . . .  She seems to think the middle of the table is exactly where she belongs.

Ruby Tuesday: Easter Eggs-To-Be

Two weekends ago, we decorated Easter eggs like we do every year before Easter.  I always hard boil two dozen eggs the day before.  I usually get one or two that crack or get fissures, but this year, I lucked out and none of the eggs were damaged during boiling.  The eggs stayed safe in the fridge in my red collapsible colander.  I couldn't resist taking a photo.  White eggs always look so pristine to me.

Ruby Tuesday: Spring Soccer Is Underway

Our 7 year old son started his first season of soccer a couple of weeks ago.  It turned out to be something he is loving quite a bit.  He normally just does taekwondo and this is his first team sport.  The league's jerseys are reversible.  The home team wears red and the away team wears white.  This shot was taken at the very first game of the season.  Our son is No. 14.

Ruby Tuesday: Building

These photos were taken of something my children built.  Of course they received a little assistance and lots of instruction, but in the end, they did a great job.  Go here to see what they ended up constructing out of these red straws.  They were pretty proud of the end result.

Ruby Tuesday: A Little Punch

These are two more photos I took at the art museum.  Some refreshments were in order since the children were making it very clear that they had enough of art and were ready to move onto something more exciting.  The only thing that was remotely exciting to them was the museum gift shop.  That was the next intended stop after they finished their fruit punch.

Ruby Tuesday: A Sweet Surprise

I recently received a breakfast gift package from a representative of  Log Cabin Syrup as a thank you for helping her with a recent campaign.   Amongst the items were three bottles of syrup each tied with a pretty red ribbon like this one.

How do you suppose she knew red is my favorite color?

Ruby Tuesday: Iron Man Costume

I recently shared a photo of our youngest son in his new preschooler Iron Man costume.  I actually took an overabundance of photos of him in this costume because he was just beaming from being so happy and excited.  So here is another photo of our little Iron Man. I'm surprised his face didn't hurt that day from smiling so much.
