10 Easy & Useful Ways to Use Chalkboard Decals in Your Home

Thank you to KiDECALS for providing complimentary product samples to help facilitate this post.

While shopping in the home furnishings department in local stores, I have been noticing chalkboard signs incorporated into everything from storage baskets to spice jars.  I loved the ideas, but I didn't like the prices.  When I saw the chalkboard decals on kidecals.com, I had a "eureka" moment.  I started thinking about all the things on which I could use these decals, which only cost $10 for a sheet of 12 (6 of the 3" and 6 of the 4").  There are also various shapes available.  The ones I used are the Chalkboard Cloud II Labels.  Since KiDECALS was nice enough to send me some chalkboard labels to play with, I was able to experiment a little.  Here are some of the ideas I came up with . . .

1.  Flatware Caddies - For parties and other gatherings, you can place these chalkboard decals on any type of smooth container.  I found the little pails pictured above in the Target dollar section.  They were the perfect size for holding forks, spoons, and knives.

2.  Wine Glass Markers - For parties, put chalkboard decals on acrylic wine glasses, flutes, or tumblers.  Then mark each glass with the guests' names or initials.  Since the decals are dishwasher-safe, you can reuse these chalkboard drinking glasses for the next party.

3.  Home Office or Craft Room Storage - I'm a big fan of using photo boxes for storage on shelves because I can label them and they keep the contents out of sight.  Sometimes those boxes just are too large to hold small items.  That's when smaller labeled jars or buckets can come in handy.  They would look very neat all lined up on a shelf.

4.  Rainy Day Jar - Everyone has something they are saving up for, whether it's a vacation or just mad money.  Place a chalkboard decal on a jar and write what you're currently saving up for on the front.  That way you'll be reminded to make an effort to add to the fund each time you see the jar.

5.  Playroom Storage - These chalkboard decals would be very handy to hold things like crayons, markers, and more.  You can write the name of what belongs in the container for organization or you can write each child's name for personal containers to keep each child's belongings separate.

6.  Mud Room Storage - If you have a mud room, you may have large bins that hold different things depending on the season.  Use these chalkboard decals on bins to label them with their purpose, such as mittens and hats, umbrellas, wet socks, balls and frisbees, etc . . .

7.  Bake Sales - If you participate in bake sales several times a year for school or other organizations, then it would be a time saver to label the side of your reusable containers with chalkboard decals rather than having to make hand written signs for each item you contribute baked goods.

8.  Easy Personalized Teacher's Gift or Get Well Gift - The acrylic stemless wine glass pictured below only cost me $1.99 each at Target.  They would make cute shatter-resistant vases to hold fresh flowers for your child to present to their teacher at the end of the school year.  The would also make thoughtful get well gifts.  It's easy to personalize the vase with a chalkboard decal to make it more special.

9.  Place Cards and Favors - A little personalized vase or glass would make an elegant place card at a wedding or a dinner party.  They could double as a favor for the guest to take home.  You could place a fresh flower or chocolates inside.

10.  Kitchen Treat Canisters - In our house, we use stainless steel canisters with glass lids to store cookies.  You really cannot tell what is inside each canister without picking it up and looking through the lid (or asking Mom).  Using chalkboard decals on these canisters would make it clear what kinds of treats are currently in each canister.

If you have other ideas for using chalkboard decals, I would love to hear them.  Feel free to share them with me and other 3G2S readers in a comment below.

Lettering on the Cheap Offers Affordable Vinyl Lettering

Whether you need vinyl lettering for your vehicle or home, indoor or outdoor, Lettering On The Cheap has all your needs covered. They make custom vinyl lettering that can be used just about anywhere you’d want. With lettering starting as low as a few dollars and with free shipping on orders over $100, Lettering On The Cheap is a great place to use for your custom orders.

Lettering On The Cheap offered me $100 to make my own quotes, and I opted to make all interior wall quotes. That $100 got me ten custom-made quotes, so I was very happy with their prices. The quotes themselves are really well-made and look fantastic on my walls.

(Click any photo to enlarge)

I got quotes to label our doors to our bedrooms, ones to label our “His & Hers” closets, one quote for each of our bedrooms, and two for my living room.

Their website was simple to use, completely customizable and designable, and overall very hassle free.

The quotes are easy to install and look very nice and professional. My only advice for people ordering from them would be to make sure your text is over 1” tall. The smaller letters do pose a slight problem when installing because they want to cling to the paper, but that is my only advice. I would and likely will order more quotes from Lettering On The Cheap in the future because of how happy I’ve been with my quotes.

You can see samples of lettering and design your own at www.letteringonthecheap.com.

Giveaway & Review: Decal Delight Wall Decals [CLOSED]

Decal Delight is a company that offers long-last, removable wall decals to fit any lifestyle or budget. Their wall decal quotes are made of top quality vinyl material that is certified to last for 5-7 years outdoors and usually much longer indoors. Also, they easily remove and cause no damage to the surface. One thing I really like is that once applied, it conforms to the texture of your walls to give it a painted on look, instead of a sticker.

We were sent one to try out and I really love it. It looks gorgeous and the saying is something that inspires me to be more optimistic and see the brighter side of life. It has been quite a topic of conversation among visitors as well, and I think it really added something amazing to my living room décor. They truly are high quality and very easy to apply.

These beautiful, unique decals are sure to improve the look of your home.  See all the Decal Delight has to offer on their website, www.decaldelight.com. Most of their decals come in many colors and they have many great wall decal quotes to offer. I picked the black Life Isn't About Waiting quote and this particular quote costs $14.00 for the smaller size (the one we received) or $48 for larger.  Shipping is FREE for all decals shipped within the United States.

Giveaway & Review: Marble Racers Light-Up Cars [CLOSED]

My children love anything that is on wheels! Throw in some flashing colorful lights and some cool decals and they could hardly wait to get their hands on these new toy cars from Skullduggery called Marble Racers. These cars have a very high coolness factor. If other children are like mine, then they may have a special affinity for toy cars that have bodies that are partially or fully transparent.

One of the features that may appeal the most to older children about the Marble Racers is that they come bare in the package along with a sheet of vinyl decals. As an adult, I found it a little nerve-wracking to apply these decals because I knew they were not removable. My 6 year old son felt the same way, but he actually did just fine. Also, parts of the decals are clear, so it is not very noticeable when one is slightly crooked.

What makes the car light up is the marble in the center. Your child can shake or tap the car on a hard surface and it will light up and flash. There is a circular opening at the top of each vehicle, where you can touch the marble. Well, the roof decal actually covers this opening and causes the marble to stick to it. At first, I was concerned about how this would affect how well the cars would roll, but it did not seem to have any negative impact on that at all.

These cars are unlike any my children have seen before, so they were extremely curious to figure out how they worked. They spent quite some time trying to look inside them and studying them.

Please watch this short video showing these Marble Racers in action . . .

There are currently six different Marble Racers offered, each retailing for $7.99 . My 6 year old's favorite is "Volcano", the car pictured below with the molten lava decals. I hope there will be a few more new designs coming in the future. These are definitely the type of car my oldest son would love to collect. To top it all off, Marble Racers are in a 1:64 scale and are compatible with Hot Wheels tracks!

The only improvement I can suggest is better quality control for the decals. For two of the cars, the decals were printed slightly off so that the windows and windshields would all be missing part of their black outline around the glass. You can see part of the sheet of decals through the packaging, so you can most likely avoid purchasing one with this flaw.

To view the full collection of Marble Racers KrazyKars or to find out where you can purchase them both online and locally, visit MarbleRacers.com . These cars are now available at major retailers, such as CVS Pharmacy and A.C. Moore. You can also find Marble Racers on Facebook!

Thank you to Skullduggery for providing us with sample cars free of charge to base this review upon and for providing a second set of cars for our contest prize.

What you can win:
One lucky reader will receive a set of 6 Marble Racers cars (ARV $48).

Giveaway & Review: WallPops! Vinyl Wall Decals ($50 GC) [CLOSED]

"Room to Play" Product #10

If you have been following along my "Room To Play" Giveaway Event, then you must have seen most of the photos I have taken of my daughter's room. Although all the items we have added have matched beautifully, there was still something missing. When I found WallPops! wall decals, I knew exactly what that missing thing was . . . a wall border.

I know some people love clean white walls, but I am not one of them. I like using various color paints on the walls, hanging up wall art and wall storage, and even painting on murals. We have done all of the above in the past trying to create a space that was both decorative, functional, and balanced. For children's rooms I think it is important to have some things that are closer to their line of vision. I think that the Purple Poppie Stripe wall border vinyl wall decal from WallPops! really helped to pull my daughter's space together.

I had a little anxiety about applying the decal because I have not had much luck in the past with wallpaper and wallpaper murals. I was so pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to put this border on the wall. Because the backing does not peel off in sections, I needed a second set of hands to hold the roll out while I peeled off the backing and smoothed the border into place. The decal is repositionable, so the few times I got bubbles, I was able to lift the decal off the wall and fix it. The vinyl is thin, but durable. It adhered to the wall very well. You can even see the wall's texture through the vinyl. It almost looks like the border was painted on.

To view the full line of WallPops!, visit Wall-Pops.com . You will find much more than just children's wall decor, such as Euro Wall Decals, dry-erase wall decals, stained glass decals for windows, and more.

Thank you to WallPops! for sending us decal samples free of charge to base this review upon and for providing additional product for our contest prize.
