Regain a Sense of Organization Using Playroom Labels

Thank you to Kidecals for providing complimentary product samples for us to complete this toy organization project. All opinions expressed are my own.

I am a firm believer that everything should have a place and that, if I go through the trouble of making sure something has a place, then our children should be able to clean up their toys 100% at the end of the day.  Unfortunately, they just do not seem to grasp that logic.  For example, a couple of years ago, my husband and I bought a basic wired baker's rack type shelving and filled it with plastic bins about the size of shoeboxes plus some larger ones.  We helped the children separate their toys into each bin and felt pretty great about how organized all their small toys were.  This feeling did not last long though . . .

It did not take long for us to realize that our children were not putting the toys back in the right bins even though they could see what was inside each bin.  At the time, we just tried to police it, which was exhausting.  Now that our 6 year old twins can read, I am able to clearly label each bin, so that they cannot claim to put something in the wrong place accidentally.

Today's Project:  Small Toy Organization

SUPPLIES NEEDED:
Plastic Storage Bins (shoebox size or larger)
Custom Playroom Labels (2 sheets per carousel)

Step 1.  Make a list of items you need to keep organized.  Then visit Kidecal's Playroom Labels product page to create your labels.  Each sheet of labels comes with 6 large labels to use on the plastic bins and 12 small labels to use on the carousel organizer.  Each field corresponds to a label in the preview, so you can see what the final labels will look like.  If you are really organized, you can color code your labels so that all red labels belong to one child and all yellow ones belong to another.  (I am not that organized.)  These labels are both dishwasher and laundry-safe, so they will work on both smooth surfaces and on fabrics, such as canvas.

Step 2.  After you have assigned a toy category for each plastic bin, carefully place the larger labels on the correct bins.  If you need to reposition them, you will need to remove them immediately before the adhesive sets.

Step 3.  After you have decided what should go in each pocket on the carousels, place the correct small label on each pocket.  Try to plan ahead.  For example, it seemed to make more sense to put the Barbie dolls on the bottom tier since they were the tallest of all the small toys.

Step 4.  This is the toughest part of this project.  Get your children to put everything in the empty bins and pockets.  I think if they do the work of finishing this project themselves, they may be more motivated to keep everything organized.  (Of course, this is just a theory.)

The things I liked most about these Playroom Labels are that they are easier to read than any labels I've ever made with a label maker, I could be as specific or as general as I wanted with the labels (ex. Action Figures vs. Star Wars Figures), and the labels stick amazingly well on fabric, even on the extremely wrinkled canvas pockets.  Each sheet of 18 custom waterproof and laundry-safe labels sells for $15.00 plus there is Free Shipping on all orders.

Dishwasher and Laundry-Safe Name Labels by Name Bubbles

Thank you to Name Bubbles for providing complimentary product samples for us to base this review upon and for providing an additional product for our contest prize.

The spring and summer seasons mean more than balmy weather and school vacation to me.  They also mean new warm-weather clothes, shoes, and gear for my children.  For some parents, it also means sending their children to summer camp.  So, when all the cold-weather clothes get put away or donated, all the new incoming items will need to be labeled.  Since I have a mix of things to label, Name Bubbles was nice enough to send us both laundry-safe and dishwasher-safe customized name labels to use on all our new spring and summertime gear.

One of Name Bubble's most popular items is their Share Labels Pack, which includes 6 sheets of labels, with each pack containing (12) 1.5" Round Dishwasher-Safe Labels, (18) 2.76" Dishwasher-Safe Fun Labels, (18) 1.78" Dishwasher-Safe Mini Labels, and (42) .78" Round and Square Laundry-Safe Labels for $35.88.  The best thing about the Share Label Pack is that you can choose one design with up to 6 different names (one name per sheet).  What a great value for families with multiple children like mine!

Even though my children will not be attending camp this year, they still need to have everything labeled for the remainder of the school year and for attending their taekwondo classes.  I recently purchased a few new acrylic tumblers for each family member.  Those all needed to be clearly labeled.  I would never want someone else to mistakingly drink from or walk off with one of my children's water cups.

You will be happy to know that, before the adhesive sets, you can remove and reapply the dishwasher-safe labels.  I know this because two or three of the labels I applied were slightly crooked and had to be repositioned.  I had also already been these Name Bubbles labels on our dishwasher-safe WaterWeek bottles and they have held up wash after wash for over a year so far without any signs of coming off or fading.

Other items all 3 of our children have for springtime are brand new hoodies and shoes.  Putting a label inside their hoodies is so much easier than trying to write their names on the label.  Most of the time, the fabric markers bleed and the names are almost illegible.  Again, this is not my first experience with Name Bubbles laundry labels, and I have found them to stay on my children's clothes very well, even after countless cycles through the washer and dryer.  For shoes, I use the laundry labels on the ones with fabric or leather/vinyl insoles, while I use the waterproof labels on shoes with rubber insoles, like flip flops.

Not labeling my children's items is not even a consideration for me.  I cannot tell you how many times they have left their coats at school and random items on the school bus.  Between the 3 of them, it definitely has been more times than I can count.

Name Bubbles offers more than just laundry and dishwasher-safe labels.  They also carry allergy and medical labels, oversized name labels for larger items, write-on labels, and more.  See their full selection by visiting www.NameBubbles.com.  Orders over $50 ship for free via First Class USPS!

The prize for this giveaway is a Share Labels Pack, which contains 90 labels and sells for $35.88.  The winner may personalize these labels with one design of their choice and up to 6 names.

6 Easy Ways to Organize Your Home

I am a big fan of using my label maker to organize almost every room in my home, but sometimes you need labels that are larger, a different shape, easier to read from a distance, or just labels that are more decorative.  That's why I think these new household labels from Mabel's Labels are so smart.  Some of them are custom printed to fit your needs and some of them come in preprinted sets, which contain every label you might need for that area of your home and then some.  I have selected 6 types of labels to share that I think would be most useful for my own household . . .

1.  Bin Labels ($21) - These are custom printed labels that are microwave-safe, dishwasher-safe, and UV resistant.  There are 4 designs to choose from.  Each set contains 27 labels.

2.  Spice Labels ($21) - These kitchen labels are perfect for labeling spice jars and other small containers. This set is also microwave-safe, dishwasher-safe, and UV resistant.  There are 4 designs to choose from.  This is a set of 45 custom printed labels.

3.  Canister Labels ($21) - These custom labels have all the features of the Spice Labels, but are designed for labeling dry goods.  There are 4 designs to choose from.  These labels come in a set of 30.

4.  Cord Control Labels ($12) - This is a set of 54 preprinted waterproof labels designed for organizing all the cords and wires in your home office, family room, kitchen, and any other room that houses electronics.  These labels only come in Navy blue and are water-resistant.

5.  Crafter's Label Pack ($12) - This is a set of 49 preprinted labels designed for organizing craft supplies.  These water-resistant labels only come in Red.

6.  Curbsides Labels ($21) - This is a set of 6 weather-proof, waterproof, UV resistant labels designed for labeling your trash cans and recycling bins.  These labels are custom printed with your street address.

I'll be daydreaming about having my very own super-organized craft room in my future (much larger) house now . . .

Back-to-School Must-Haves: Label-Land Bag Tags & Labels

For us, school begins again at the end of August.  Although I have most of the supplies on the lists the teachers had sent home in the Spring, I still feel like I have lots more to do.  One thing I can check off my list is labeling everything for our three children.  It is a requirement to label pretty much anything that goes into school.

For the Fall 2012 school year, Label-Land sent us 2 personalized metal bag tags for each child and 40 classic white waterproof labels per child.  The bag tags are customized on the front with the design and text of your choice and have the Label-Land logo on the back.  Our children were each able to choose the design they liked best.  Our daughter chose the Cupcakes design and both our boys chose the Green Camouflage.  All the bag tags come with a ball chain and easily attach just about anywhere.  For our 5-1/2 year old twins, I hung the bag tags where they would be easily visible.  For our 8-1/2 year old son, I attached it where it was detectable, but could be tucked inside the front pocket of his backpack.  These metal tags seem to be lightweight, but strong, and should hold up well to everyday normal use for more than one school year.  The Label-Land bag tags are priced at 2 for $12.99, 5 for $23.99, and 10 for $39.99.

Here are some examples of what I used the different sizes of white waterproof stickers to label.  They worked well both on the vinyl interior of my older son's lunchbox and on the textured canvas-like exterior of the twins' lunchboxes.

I also used these labels inside my children's shoes, on their poly folders, and on their reusable water bottles.

I was pleased that these waterproof labels stayed put even after multiple washes in the dishwasher.  These labels are also microwave-safe, but I have not tested them out in the microwave.  The 40 assorted size labels are priced at $14.99 for 1 sheet, $24.99 for 2 sheets, $33.99 for 3 sheets, and $39.99 for 4 sheets.

In addition to personalized bag tags and classic white waterproof labels, Label-Land also offers iron-on clothing labels and two different sizes of colorfully designed waterproof labels.  You can view all their products by visiting www.label-land.com.  The bag tags and stickers would be perfect for use at school, at summer camp, and for giving as stocking stuffers.

Thank you to Label-Land for providing complimentary product samples for us to base this review upon.
