The Perfect Fall Outfit For the Modern Confident Fun-Loving Girl!

This post has been written as part of an affiliate campaign for Zulily.  All opinions expressed are my own.

Our 6-1/2 year old daughter feels just as comfortable in a tutu as she does in combat boots.  It really depends on her mood.  What I would consider to be the perfect outfit for her is something that is girly, sporty, and edgy all at once.  I usually am right on target when I shop for her as far as clothing and footwear goes, but it's a 50/50 chance I will choose the wrong thing when it comes to jewelry and hair accessories.  She would need to accessorize this outfit herself and she wouldn't have it any other way.

The perfect fall outfit for my 1st grader . . .

1.  Inkbone Lemon 'Smart Girls Rule' Tee - Girls - $9.99 (Originally $18)

2.  Utilitarian Cargo Pants - Toddler & Girls - $37.99 (Originally $72)

4.  Carrini Brown Buckle Boot - $19.99 (Originally $50)

5.  Trish Scully Child Coral Eyelet Ruffle Tote - $25.99 (Originally $44)

Zulily also offers tons of cute clothing and footwear for boys too!  I really should write more about boys' fashions for my two sons, but it is just too much fun shopping for my daughter.

Go Back-to-School in Style with Ed Hardy, Lipstik, and More from Sophia's Style

Thank you to Sophia's Style for providing a gift code for us to shop for back-to-school clothes and for providing an additional gift code for our contest prize.  All opinions expressed are my own.

Just like with my Holiday shopping, I do a large percentage of my back-to-school shopping online.  I recently added another affordable children's clothing website to my list of go-to sites . . . Sophia's Style.  This site offers everything from stylish school-friendly clothing to Halloween costumes from brand names, such as Ed Hardy, Lipstik, Rothschild, Capezio, Baby Togs, and more.

Although Sophia's Style does offer fashions for boys, the majority of the site is devoted to not just girls, but fashion-forward, loving-life, full-of-personality, confident girls.  Because I had a coupon code in June, I was able to order two complete outfits plus an adorable handbag for my daughter for just $51.16 shipped!

Since the temperatures here sometimes remain in the 70s through October, I chose items that could carry over from the warmer weather into fall.  The first outfit consists of the Ed Hardy Turquoise Blue Love Eternal Designer T-Shirt and the Lipstik Girls Denim Print Rhinestone Studded Mini Skirt.  Both pieces are decorated on the front and the back, so our daughter can make a statement coming and going.  During the hot and humid weather, she wore this outfit with a pair of Lycra shorts underneath.  For the fall, she can layer a pair of leggings underneath instead and finish off the outfit with a pair of stylish boots and a hoodie or a denim, twill, or faux leather jacket.

The second outfit pairs the RMLA Pink White Pattern Sequin Butterfly 2pc Leggings Outfit with the Poochie & Co. Girls Cute Fuzzy Sequin Duckling Zipper Purse.  This outfit is stylish, comfortable, and playground-friendly.  For the fall, we could replace the white capri leggings with a pair of jeggings and add a cropped cardigan with a pair of ballet flats or canvas shoes.

My daughter loves the rhinestone and sequins trend.  Both tops and both bottoms are embellished, as is the plush handbag.  Our daughter is just crazy about ducks, so I knew she would love this crossbody bag with or without the sequins.  The extra sparkle is just an extra perk!  The strap was slightly long for her, so I knotted it to make it shorter.  This Poochie & Co. bag also comes in 9 other style choices, including a panda bear, a unicorn, and an elephant with large sequined ears.

Right in time for back-to-school, Sophia's Style is offering Free Domestic Shipping on orders of $75 or more.  Flat rate shipping within the U.S. is just $7.99.  Also, if you sign up for the Sophia's Style Newsletter, you can save 20% off right away on all regularly priced items in your order with a promo code.

Weekend Wishlist: Yogurt Maker, Chalkboard Table Runner, Mother-Daughter Outfits, and More!

It's Friday!  That means I've been browsing the new sales on Zulily.  I love shopping on the weekends because I only pay shipping on my first order and get free shipping on everything else from Friday through midnight on Sunday.  Today, I was especially excited because I found cute matching mother-daughter fashions.  I've purchased mother-daughter handbags in the past, but I've never found any mother-daughter outfits that both my daughter and I like well enough.  The girl's dress and matching women's skirt below are the best option I've seen so far.  All I would need to do is pair the striped skirt with a basic black top.  What do you think?

What's new on my Zulily wishlist today?

1.  Dollie & Me Lilac 'Birthday Wishes' Tee Set & Doll Outfit - Toddler & Girls - $23.99 (Originally $50)

2.  Dash Stainless Steel Yogurt Maker - $29.99 (Originally $60)

Custom Printed Girls Taekwondo Tee . . . a "Pick Your Own Design" T-Shirt by Amy Adele

Best known for their personalized stationary for children, the online retailer Amy Adele also features their whimsical artwork on t-shirts for infants, toddlers, boys, and girls.  When I was invited to select a product to review, I considered choosing some personalized waterproof labels since I have depleted my supply labeling everything for our twin kindergartners.  I ended up wandering over to the clothing tab and was floored to find 112 different t-shirt designs for girls alone.  I had just about made up my mind to choose this cute duck t-shirt (our daughter is just crazy about ducks) when I saw another appealing option . . . the Pick Your Own Design T-shirt.

I had seen some karate-themed stationary for boys and for girls, but I did not see this design available within the girls' t-shirt assortment.  The "Pick Your Own Design" option seemed like the perfect thing!  It is rare to find cute taekwondo-themed shirts for girls, so I thought I would create one using the karate girl graphic.

The Pick Your Own Design shirts for girls are available in toddler and youth sizes.  There was a note stating that the shirts may shrink a whole size if put in the dryer, so I opted for a Youth Size 8.  Our daughter usually wears a size 6 and, as you can see, the 8 is not too large on her after being washed and dried, but she also has room to grow.

When personalizing the shirt, I was able to specify text for 2 lines.  I was also able to choose the font, text size, font color, and how I wanted the text aligned.  Although the graphic was not shown, I was able to preview the text, so I could adjust it until I was sure I was happy with how it looked.  During checkout, I just needed to include the name of which design I wanted to appear on the shirt.  This custom t-shirt costs just $19.95, which is only $4 more than the girls t-shirts with existing designs.

Overall, I am very pleased with our custom shirt.  It was very soft and did not shrink more than expected.  Most importantly, our little black belt-in-training was very proud to wear it.

To view the entire selection of Amy Adele t-shirts, stationary, thank you notes, invitations, labels, calling cards, and more, visit AmyAdele.com.  Sign up to receive their newsletter by email to receive a 20% discount.  Also, remember to check for Amy Adele promo codes before you shop!

Giveaway: Reflect Who I Am . . . Inspirational Mirror Image Shirts for Women & Girls [CLOSED]

One of the most challenging things about raising a daughter today is ensuring that she has confidence and a positive self-image.  I really think I lucked out in this category.  Although our daughter is a perfectionist and is hard on herself when she disappoints herself by not mastering something right away, she is well-rounded and is confident in most areas of her life.  Unfortunately, the reality is that not all parents are as lucky as my husband and I are, but instead are faced with the challenge of raising their daughter's self-esteem.

Reflect Who I Am is a brand of graphic tees for girls and adults that bear a positive message that can only be read while looking in a mirror.  That way, whenever the person looks in the mirror, she will be reminded of something wonderful.  The design my 6 year old daughter chose was the mirror image of the message "I am Loved."  She received it presented so nicely tied with a satin ribbon along with the Reflect Who I Am logo drawstring bag.

Our daughter currently wears a girls size 6, so we chose the Small (6-8).  The style of t-shirt is a baby doll style and is meant to be fitted.  It was only slightly too large on our daughter, even after we machine washed and dried the shirt.  It will easily last us another year or two before she outgrows it.

Having a shirt with a mirror image on it was an extremely cool concept to our daughter.  She could not wait to wear it to school so she could challenge everyone to read it.

The Reflect Who I Am logo is also screen printed onto the back of the shirt below the neckline.

Since you cannot be there to offer encouraging words each time your daughter looks in the mirror, it is great to know that she will receive that message anyways.  I especially like the "I am loved" design my daughter chose, as well as the one that reads, "I am beautiful."

What a wonderful gift a Reflect Who I Am t-shirt would make to a girl, tween, teen, or woman who needs that extra boost of self-esteem.  Tucked inside our package was a little note from the Reflect Who I Am Team addressing the recipient of the shirt.  The note reiterates the message on the shirt and reaffirms how true that message is.  If you give a shirt as a gift, be sure to include the note with it when presenting the gift.

To view all the Reflect Who I Am t-shirt designs available and to read more about this company's mission, visit www.ReflectWhoIAm.com.  The girls' shirts retail for just $20 each, the adults' for $23 each, and the logo drawstring bag for just $10.

Thank you to Reflect Who I Am for providing a complimentary product sample for us to base this review upon and for providing additional product for our contest prize.  All opinions expressed are my own.

Shop 'n' Share: Kids' Fall Fashion Separates from Cookie's Kids (#CBias #CookiesKids)

When it comes to shopping for clothes for my children, I try to be proactive.  I am always looking for quality clothing at great prices.  When I come across such finds, I always buy them in the next size up.  That way, I have a good amount of clothing for that dreaded moment . . . the moment when they wake up one morning and find that all their shirts no longer fit right and all their pants are too short.

Well, this exact thing happened to all 3 of my children right after school started.  Right on schedule, the weather here in Massachusetts has started to become quite mild.  After taking stock of what clothing I had on hand, I knew I had to go shopping for more school clothes.  Since I had found such great deals on my last shopping trip on CookiesKids.com, I definitely put this site on my list of places to shop for fall and winter kids clothes.

After browsing the Cookie's Kids website quite extensively, I decided that I should buy one outfit for each of my three children.  I saw some great name brands that my husband and I wear ourselves, like Nautica, Levis, The North Face, and Baby Phat.  For this shopping trip though, I had to stay on a budget because I have quite a bit of holes to fill in my children's fall wardrobes.  So, I followed my usual routine for shopping online, which was to add items that I liked the look and the price of to my shopping cart and then let the children tell me which items they liked best.  My daughter took forever to decide since she wanted everything that was cute and pretty, while her two brothers were all about Marvel Comics shirts, although our 8 year old son did consider this Nautica long-sleeved graphic tee briefly.  After the children chose their shirts, I shopped around for pants that would match each one.

I really enjoy shopping for clothes for my children (don't you?), especially when there are a lot of stylish clothes to choose from.  I wish Cookie's Kids department stores had locations here in Massachusetts.  Hopefully, someday they will grow and branch out from their 7 store locations in the New York City area.

This is what I ultimately ended up ordering . . .

This is what I would have ordered if I was not on a strict budget . . .
Knowledge is Power!

Since Cookie's Kids is based in New York, it only took about two days for my order to arrive even though I had a coupon code from being on their email list for Free Shipping plus 5% off my order.  That is super-convenient compared to some other websites who ship the slowest method possible when you take advantage of a free shipping offer.  I have had orders take 10 days to arrive from some of those other retailers.

The ordered looked good with no errors.  We washed everything in cold water, dried it on high heat, and all the pieces came out looking great!

Our 8 year old loved his Marvel "Cast of Characters" Slider Shirt, as did his little brother.  They had so much fun trying to name all the characters.  The Blue Tab "Scratch" Jeans fit my son well.  Like with most pants, he needed to wear a belt with it and these jeans have a slightly lower rise than he is used to.

Our 5 year old son is wearing the Spider-Man "Spine-Chilling Battle" Slider Shirt and the Mad Game "Border Stripe" Track Pants.  He is crazy about his shirt and cannot wait until it is cool enough to wear long-sleeves to school so he can show it off.  The pants are a size 5/6, which is his current size.  They are slightly long in the rise and the inseam, but I have no doubt he will be growing into them within a few months.  These track pants are a little shinier than I expected, but all my son cares about is how soft and comfy the lining is inside and he loves that they have pockets.

Our daughter was super-excited to try on her French Toast outfit made up of the "Love Eternal" Mock Top and the "Ruffle Cuff" Leggings.  I was a little surprised that both items were listed as "Purple", but the pants were darker than the mock shrug.  Nonetheless, I thought the outfit was pretty adorable and my daughter loved it because it was both cute and comfortable.  She currently takes a size 6, but I ordered a size 6x in hopes that the outfit will last her through next Spring.

What do you think about the outfits we chose?  I think we did pretty darn well buying all three outfits for less than $42!  If you have shopped at Cookie's Kids either in-store or online, I would love to hear about your best finds.

More about Cookie's Kids . . .
"In 1972, a young man named Cookie and his brother Marvin went into business together. They rented a 1600 square foot store in Jamaica, Queens, fixed it up, bought inventory in Summer and Fall, and opened a day after Thanksgiving with a full stock of holiday toys. The toys were a success and they put the extra money toward buying children's clothing for the next season. When that did well, they bought more clothing. The business was on it's way.

As the brothers Cookie, Marvin and Sonny, who had come in as a third partner in the business, began to open new stores in new locations, inventory expanded. Besides the latest fashions, our customers wanted shoes, toys, backpacks and accessories and we were prepared to deliver.

By the late 1990's there were six superstores throughout the NYC area, and though they previously had different names, by that time they were all named Cookie's Kids. Also in the late '90s came an important addition to Cookie's Kids' inventory: school uniforms. It was the steady success in uniform sales that paved the way for founding CookiesKids.com in 2007, which originally sold uniforms and soon after the entire Cookie's Kids Inventory."

Back-to-School Must-Haves: Soffe Activewear Separates for Girls

Having grown up with two brothers, we are still not sure how our 5-1/2 year old daughter turned out to be such a dainty little girl.  As luck would have it, she also happens to be naturally athletic.  Although she has shown no interest in joining the team, she has shown quite a bit of talent in soccer.  She thoroughly enjoys both dance and taekwondo (though she might be the only TKD student in the world who asked her instructor if kicking the bag would chip the nail polish on her toes).  I also would not be surprised if she showed an interest in gymnastics and cheer in the future.  Did I mention that our daughter also loves anything to do with clothes and fashion?

For girls like our daughter, who love to look cute and stylish, but still be comfortable enough to keep up with the boys playing tag at recess, Soffe Kids is the perfect clothing line.  Soffe is a brand that makes clothing for every athlete in the family.  Although nobody would mistake me for an athlete, if the ladies' sweats are as soft and cozy as the girls' are, I might need to buy a set or two for myself.

(Click any photo to enlarge)

The nicely wrapped package above contained two outfits.  The first outfit consisted of the Contrast Fleece Zip Hoodie and the coordinating Contrast Roll Football Capris.  Our daughter normally wears a size 6, but both pieces arrived in a size S, which is equivalent to a size 7.  I was a little worried that the pants would be too large at the waist, but they seemed to fit just fine due to the wide elastic.  This is after we washed all the pieces in cold water and dried them on low heat.  I am rather thrilled because these sweats will last our daughter for a couple of years since she is likely to grow taller, but not too much wider.  Our daughter loved these sweats because they were cuddly soft inside and the contrasting colors in the lining and topstitching made them fun and stylish.

The second outfit consisted of the Rugby Deep V Hoodie and the Print Leggings.  Although I originally requested the dark pink hoodie to match the print in the leggings, I actually like the very neutral light pink.  The hoodie does have a deep V-neck, so I had to layer a black tank underneath, which actually helped to pull the whole outfit together.  I thought this outfit would look adorable with a pair of boots, but our daughter insisted on wearing her new black flats.  Both these pieces are also a size S.  The leggings fit fine at the waist, but were slightly long.  These pieces will also easily fit her for more than one year.

Overall, I am extremely pleased with Soffe clothing.  All pieces washed very well and our daughter feels cute and girly in them without sacrificing comfort.  You can shop Soffe's full selection of activewear for men, ladies, juniors, and kids by visiting www.soffe.com.

Back-to-School Must-Haves: Eddie Bauer Girl's Fast Fleece Hoodie

Here in Massachusetts, one wardrobe piece every child needs is a fleece hoodie to keep them warm during the 50-ish degree months when a winter coat is just too heavy.  This fleece needs to be warm, a little bit stretchy to fit over sweaters and sweatshirts, but not too bulky in order to use as a layer under another coat when needed.  The Eddie Bauer Kids Girl's Fast Fleece Hoodie seems to meet all those requirements.

The Fast Fleece Hoodie comes in five different colors, all with a coordinating contrast stitching.  Our daughter chose the Raspberry color.  She usually wears a size 5/6, so I followed the sizing chart and ordered the size XS for her.  I was a little nervous about whether I had made the correct choice in size because I did not want her to outgrow this hoodie before winter was over.

(Click any photo to enlarge)

Well, it turned out that the size XS was the perfect size for our 5-1/2 year old.  In fact, the sleeves and the body are slightly long, so she has room to grow.  This fleece hoodie will easily last her through the end of the upcoming winter.  Two problems I had with her fleece hoodie last year (made by a different brand) was that she had trouble zipping it up on her own and that the hood did not cover the top of her forehead.  I am happy to find that neither of those things are an issue with the Fast Fleece Hoodie.

I also want to point out that this hoodie is very stylish with the contrast stitching across the chest, down the front, on the shoulders, and on the hood.  There is also colorful detailing in both the zippers and zipper pulls on the front of the jacket and the two side pockets.  This jacket also includes two interior pockets.

Although our daughter loves to look cute, what she really cares about when it comes to a hoodie is that it is cuddly soft, which this is.  We have washed this fleece in cold water and dried it on high heat.  I was happy to see that there were no signs of shrinking, fading, or pilling.

To view the Eddie Bauer Kids' full selection of fall and winter clothing for boys, girls, infants, and toddlers, visit www.eddiebauer.com.  Through August 28th, 2012, you can receive Free Standard Shipping on orders of $99 or more when you checkout using Code: BLUEFISH.

Back-to-School: 6 New Girls Dresses from Tea Collection's "10th Anniversary Collection"

It's no secret that I love the globally-inspired children's fashions offered by Tea Collection, who has been offering clothing for girls, boys, and women long before my first child was even born.  In fact, Tea Collection is currently celebrating a full decade of fashion with their Tenth Anniversary Collection.  My personal weakness is the many girls' dresses Tea Collection designs in such pretty prints.  Pairing them with leggings allows my daughter to wear these comfortable dresses without worrying about being active both in school and on the playground.  I especially like how these short-sleeved dresses can be layered with a long-sleeved layering tee and leggings in the fall and winter and can be worn alone, with bike shorts, or with capri leggings during the balmier months.

Here are the six new girls' dresses introduced in honor of Tea Collection's 10th Anniversary . . .

Tea Collection Sumi Floral Dress - $35.00

Part of our special 10th anniversary collection. The Sumi Floral dress had its debut in the Japanese-inspired part of our Fall 2007 collection. Inspired by a brilliantly bold and graphic hand-crafted Japanese textile. We brought it back in a classic wrapneck knit style dress. You're sure to be a classic in it.

Tea Collection Butterfly Dot Dress - $29.00

Part of our special 10th anniversary collection. This flurry of red butterflies on a field of blue dots made its debut with our Fall 2009 Japan inspired collection. Brought back in a favorite flutter sleeve silhouette.

Tea Collection Hanji Floral Wrap Dress - $45.00

Part of our special 10th anniversary collection. The Hanji Floral dress debuted in Destination: Korea in Spring 2010. Inspired by handmade decorative Korean paper. We brought it back in its original printed poplin wrap style dress with side tie closure. Be an original!

Tea Collection Sanga Dress - $29.00

Part of our special 10th anniversary collection. The Sanga Dress first debuted in Destination: West Africa in Spring 2008. Inspired by Mali motifs and hand-dyed textiles, the dotted swirls print is sure to become a favorite all over again.

Tea Collection Floral Vine Dress - $29.00

Part of our special 10th anniversary collection. The Floral Vine Dress debuted in Spring 2007 in our Turkey-inspired collection. It was inspired by decorative sixteenth century Iznik pottery, named for the town in western Anatolia where it was made. Its delicate floral pattern comes to life in style and grace on this pretty printed knit dress in a favorite flutter sleeve silhouette.

Tea Collection Kasato Stripe Dress - $45.00

Part of our special 10th anniversary collection. The Kasato Stripe Dress first debuted in Destination: Brazil in Spring 2009. It has a nautical flavor and is named for the steamer ship that brought Japanese immigrants to Brazil in 1908.

Which dress is your favorite?  I especially like the Butterfly Dot Dress since I have a soft spot for the color red.
