Two years ago, our son put on his first Mouth Man hoodie. It was the T-Rex and he wore it as often as he could until he finally outgrew it. What a sad day that was for him. I cannot tell you how thrilled he was to have received this Dragon hoodie a few weeks ago, one of Mouth Man's newest designs.
Mouth Man hoodies not only look cool, but the company is actually the brainchild of Ross Valory, one of the founding members of the rock band Journey. What could be cooler than that? Well, how about these shirts being made out of UPF 50 fabricmanufactured from recycled plastic bottles?
When my son started wearing his T-Rex hoodie, he was six years old and wore a size 8 Mouth Man hoodie. Although the slim cut of the body fit him well, the sleeves were a little long. Today he is 8 years old and normally wears a size 7/8, but is wearing a size 10 in this Dragon hoodie. The sleeves seem to be the right length and the hoodie seems to fit well from the front.

The sleeve length is the key to these hoodies fitting properly because you need each animal's snout to hit right at the points of both elbows. If lined up properly, the creature's eyes should be on the top and the two elbows stacked together will form the mouth. In full view, the arms form the creature's head and the rest of the animal's body is shown on the front of the hoodie. With some practice, you can animate the creature by making its upper and lower jaws open and shut by moving your arms.
Although the hoodie fits my son well from the front, from the back there is lots of extra room in the shoulders. Since every adult and child is built differently, I highly suggest you check the measurements on the sizing charts.

I am so excited to report that one of my favorite children's retailers, Tea Collection, has won the 2012 "Stylish Tots" Cribsie Award! This is big news, considering the tough competition. Some of the other retailers who were nominated included brands like Ralph Lauren, J. Crew, and Appaman. Our daughter first experienced Tutu Pour Mon Deux when she was 3 years old. She was so sad when she outgrew her Boston Red Sox tutu tank. If you know a little girl who enjoys fashion design or likes to spend time on FashionPlaytes.com, then she will love creating a tutu shirt or a tutu tank online. The one our 5 year old daughter ended up with looks nothing like the one she started with. She thoroughly enjoyed the design process, especially since the design page is so user-friendly for someone who cannot quite read yet.
As you can see in the photos, these shirts are created by hand, with iron on appliques and sewn on organza tutus with a ribbon trim. Our daughter currently takes a size 5/6. The Size 7 tutu tank is slightly large on her, but that works out great. I am hoping this shirt will fit her for two whole years just like the last one. These tanks are machine washable in cold water (turned inside-out) and do not shrink if they are laid flat to dry.
Too bad our daughter's birthday has already passed because this cupcake tutu tank would be perfect for a birthday girl to wear. She did wear this shirt to school to show it off and received one compliment after another from her girlfriends, teachers, and the other parents.

I have given personalized storybooks to my children in the past and they all have had a degree of coolness because our children were actually characters in the story. However, I found that the My Very Own Fairy Tale Personalized Storybook from ISeeMe.com, a well-known brand of personalized gifts for children, was especially charming and delightful.
What makes this book so unique is that it uses the letters of your child's first and last name to create the story. That way, no two books will be identical unless two children have the same names. It is an extremely inventive concept and thoroughly thrilled our 5 year old daughter since she recently mastered spelling both her first and last name.

Like most personalized storybooks, I was able to add a special dedication on the title page. Our message included our daughter's full name, a special sentiment, our daughter's date and year of birth, my husband's and my name, and the year during which we presented our daughter with this book. Although I removed some of my daughter's personal information from the photo above, you can still see how nice the dedication looks.
We asked our 8 year old son to read this book as a bedtime story to our 5 year old twins. There were some big words, such as "knowledgeable" and "enthusiasm", but he did great! The premise of the story is that the fairies of The Fairy Patch need to choose a princess to crown. With each letter of our daughter's name, a different fairy gave a wonderful reason why our daughter should be the one chosen. When the story continued on with the letter's of our daughter's last name, everyone found that to be a delightful surprise. At the end of the book, there is a colorful directory that tells a little about each flower in alphabetical order along with a picture of each fairy associated with each particular flower.

Our 5 year old daughter is quite a good storyteller, although they are a bit lengthy and usually come out in one big run-on sentence. Her twin brother, however, needs to work on his ability to continue a story with relevant information and on his enunciation. To help our son further develop these skills, I chose the "Let's Play House" felt board from FunWithFelt.com as the perfect tool. I actually used a felt board with my older son in a similar activity, but the "Let's Play House" felt board inspires an infinite number of stories, whereas more basic felt boards may cause a child to lose interest after being used 2 or 3 times.

This particular Learning Fun With Felt set comes with over 20 pre-cut felt pieces to help your child tell his or her story. All the pieces are common items and people that would be easily recognized by most children and could be incorporated into a story without much difficulty. There is even a place to write your child's name on the back of the board and a handy reusable carrying case for easy storage and transporting. You can also use the felt pieces from this set on other felt boards and other felt pieces on this board.
Since we have two preschoolers, we asked them to take turns telling a single story, where one child would start and the other child would pick up where the first child left off. This activity not only was a good exercise for developing verbal skills, it also taught our twins to have patience and to adapt. Patience was required for each child to wait for his or her turn, especially if they are anxious to tell the part of the story they have come up with in their head. Also, sometimes one child found the other's piece of the story to be less than interesting, but he or she still had to listen patiently. Adaptation came into play when one child did not like where the story was going as told by the other or the turn of events in the story conflicted with what they had intended to add to the story when it was their turn again. During these instances, the child had to figure out how to change their piece of the story so that he or she could add what they originally wanted, but to have the story still flow and make sense.
By the time our twins were done with their story, there was much disorder in our little felt board house. They thoroughly enjoyed the activity. I actually think they liked being able to make this pretend house disorderly since they are always being asked to make things orderly in their real house. Of course, I had to go back afterwards and put all the felt pieces where they made sense after our children were done playing . . .

To say that our children have Spring fever is an understatement. Although they are disappointed that we hardly got any snow so far this winter, I know they want the warmer weather to come so that they can play outside more often and to do so without having to bundle up. Our children, ages 5, 5, and 8, are especially fashion-conscious for their age, especially our daughter and our oldest son. For those of you who are wondering, these shirts are not tagless, but the small tags sewn into the inside neckline are very soft and satiny.
As you can see, our children are loving their shirts and think the designs are fun and very fitting for each of their personalities. We took these photos during school vacation week and they just cannot wait to show their new shirts to their friends at school.
