Silly Monkey Stories (Tuesday Meme)

This weekly blog meme called "Silly Monkey Stories" takes place on Tuesdays. I came up with this as a way for bloggers to celebrate the children in their lives. It is a great way to give your readers a glimpse into your life and to meet new bloggers from all around the world (plus it gives you something to blog about). My post containing Mr. Linky will auto post at 12:01am EST every Tuesday.

Definition of "A Silly Monkey Story":

a) Your post can be about any child in your life, not just your own (i.e. a grandchild, a niece/nephew, a neighbor, a student, etc . . . )

b) Your post can be a photo with a caption or blurb, a photo with a story, or simply a story without a photo.

c) Your post should be about something this child (age 0-17) did that made you smile, laugh, shake your head, or roll your eyes. You get the idea, right? It can be about something recent or something that happened in the past.

How to Play:

1) Make a "Silly Monkey Story" post on your blog on Tuesday, include one of the graphics below in your blog (and one on your sidebar if you wish), and link back to this page in your blog post.

2) Leave a comment on my "Silly Monkey Story" post.

3) Sign in on Mr. Linky with the URL to your "Silly Monkey Story" post (not the URL to your main blog page).

4) Go visit the participants' blogs. Read and comment about all their silly little monkeys.

Monsters ARE Real!

Monsters are for real!
Jake saw for himself today
With his own two eyes.

They were friendly ones,
Not even a bit scary.
YAY for nice monsters!

Our 4yr old son Jake enjoyed this show featuring Elmo and Abby Caddaby at a local mall put on by Sesame Place. They really tried to keep the kids moving during the show. And after the show, the children were invited up to meet the host who turned out to be very nice. Since Jake was being polite and patient while waiting for his turn to meet him, the host made sure my husband could get a great photo of him with Jake.

First Haircut

Makenzie got her first haircut today. Her hair was not particularly long, but it was so uneven. What's worse than a mullet on a 16mos old girl? . . . HALF a mullet on a 16mos old girl!!!

We took her to our local Snip-its where they specialize in haircuts for children. She even got this certificate for being so brave for her first haircut and they saved some locks of hair for us.

I was extremely surprised at how well Makenzie did. She normally doesn't even hold her head still long enough for me to put a hairclip in her hair. She did look around a little bit, but she did not fuss at all.

The hairdresser even give her a tiny little bow! Again, I was amazed that she sat still long enough for the stylist to put an elastic in her hair and then tie a ribbon around it.

VOILA!!! Here are the final results! Doesn't she look pretty?

Little Boy . . . Big Heart

Recently, I started a new routine where I would take each twin before their afternoon nap and we would sit alone on their 4yr old brother's bed and read. With 3 children, it is quite difficult for us to have one on one time with each child. This guarantees the twins a few minutes each day of undivided attention.

Anyways, today I was reading on Jake's bed with Makenzie when Chunky Monkey caught her eye. She immediately picked him up and started to cuddle and hug him. This was a special doll that Jake use to hold to sleep. When I told him how Makenzie fell in love with Chunky Monkey, Jake generously said that she could have him because he was just the right size for his little sister. I was so impressed at how he was willing to share his special doll with his sister. He's such a little boy, but what a big heart he has!

"Look what my big brother gave me!"

The best nap ever.

Some Family Time Saved the Day!

For a while it seemed like the highlight of my day was going to be slipping and falling halfway down the basement steps early this afternoon. Yes, that's right. My feet went right out from under me and I landed on my behind/back. Luckily, the steps are covered in a thickly padded plush carpet and my behind is cushier than it use to be. LOL!! I ended up a little banged up, but did not sustain any serious injuries (as far as I can tell).

Come late afternoon, since the beautiful weather was holding up, we brought out the new water table for the kids to play with before dinner. This was nothing new to our 4yr old because he has a water table at preschool, but it was a first for our 16mos old twins. They thoroughly enjoyed themselves and I took nearly a hundred photos. It was so much fun watching the three of them playing and discovering together.

Thanks for stopping by to read about my day.
(Btw, I changed the photo at the bottom of the page.)

Alphabet Photos (Letter Z)

"Z is for Zebra"

For our final installment I was going to go with "Zzzzzzzzzzzzz's" but I had too many sleeping children and pet photos and it would have been impossible to choose only one or two. So I decided to go with a classic. This is yet another zoo photo.

Check out Quilly's blog to see all the Alphabet Photos (A to Z)! It was so much participating in this project and I'm a little sad to see it end.

Alphabet Photos (Letter Y)

"Y is for Yummy"
Jake wanted our Y photo to be a yellow sheet of construction paper, so I had to veto his choice for the first time during this whole project. LOL!! I ended up trying to take a yummy photo with this sundae in front of a cupcake cookbook. It would have been yummier-looking if my whipped cream had not deflated so quickly.

Thanks for coming to look at our "Y" installment! Stop by Quilly's Pacific Paradise to view more Alphabet Photos.

A Few Minutes Can Seem Like a Day

Today, I sent my 4yr old son upstairs to have a time out. His behavior just flipped the switch that set off a mental meltdown that had been building from the usual stresses in my life . . . health problems, money issues, etc . . . So Jake was upstairs crying and I was downstairs doing the same.

After I calmed down a bit, I went upstairs to talk to him about what he had done and why it upset me. When I got up there, he looked shocked because he could tell that I had been crying. That is something he rarely sees. I started off by asking him why he was crying. His answer was that he was crying because he was doing things that he was not suppose to be doing. Then I asked him why he thought I was crying. To this he answered, "Because you missed me?" I was taken aback by that answer and realized that, even though he was only up there for ten minutes or so, it must have felt like much longer to him. Although I was still quite angry at him, I found his answer to be so endearing. If he were a few years older, I would have thought he was being sarcastic, but he was actually being very sincere.

Thanks for taking the time to read about this small part of my day!

Alphabet Photos (Letter X)

"X is for X-Wing Fighter"
by Karen & Jake

The first one is Jake's toy and the second one is another photo from the 2005 Star Wars exhibit. To get an idea of the size of the ship, that's Jake in the lower left (with me crouching in front of him) when he was about 21mos old.

Visit Quilly's Pacific Paradise to see more Alphabet Photos. Only two more to go!! I'm feeling sad already.

PhotoHunt: Shoes

"Shoes"

These are my 16mos old daughter's first pair of prewalkers purchased at Payless. She mostly still wears soft-soled leather shoes. If you've been keeping up with my blog, then you know that she only recently took her first steps. Anyways, since our twins are preemies, they have a session with Early Intervention (EI) once a month. They told us that the Payless prewalkers have been rated to have the same technology as Stride Rite's prewalkers, so why spend the extra money for a pair of shoes that will be worn for only a month or two, right?

Don't forget to check out more PH photos at tnchick.com! Thanks for taking the time to view mine. Have a great Memorial Day weekend!!
